Delta Babes FC of Warri thrashed Bayelsa Princesses FC of Yenagoa 6-0 at the ongoing Defiant Ladies U-17 Tournament at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, yesterday.
Delta Babes took the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring 5 goals in the first half to leave their opponents bewildered.
Happiness Agboye opened the floodgates for Delta Babes before Joy Joseph lobbed the opposing Goalkeeper from just inside the area to double their lead.
Divine Peter, Precious Edewor and Ifeoma Damian registered their names on the score sheet to cap a spectacular five star first half performance for Delta Babes, as the referee’s whistle provided an avenue for relief for Bayelsa Princesses.
The Princesses began the second half in a more spirited fashion as they pressed to register a goal in the enounter.
However, a 30-yard rocket from Mary Chisom put the final nail on the coffin for Bayelsa Princesses, to leave them bottom of the group with an inferior goal difference.
Coach of Delta Babes, Dickson Dalami, hailed his team’s performance, stating that they played according to instructions and were clinical in front of goal.
He mentioned that he also instructed his team to keep the ball and attack less to keep his players relatively fresh for their next game.
Coach of Bayelsa Princesses Damini Beredugo stated that he was impressed with his team despite the huge score line.
He lamented the loss of two of his key players as one of the reasons for the huge loss.
“I am impressed with my girls, regardless of the score line. We lost two central defenders yesterday and that affected us today”, he said.
He expressed optimism that the team would receive adequate support from the Bayelsa State Government.
“For a team that has been together for only four days, we have done well and I am certain that the Bayelsa State Government would support the team to remain afloat”
In the second fixture of the day between Mighty Wanderers of Abraka and Fortress Ladies of Benin City, a 25th minute goal by Ivie Henry for Fortress Ladies was enough to secure all three points.
