A staff of Delta State Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) has alleged that despite the approval of the State Governor, there are deliberate moves by some officials to deny some teachers in the state the payment of their promotion arrears.
The teacher, who did not want his name in print for fear of victimisation, alleged that those vested with the responsibility of processing and paying promotion arrears to teachers were sitting on the files without justification.
He also alleged that those responsible were engaged in selective payment of the promotion arrears to teachers in the State Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), adding that such act was quite mischievous and should be discouraged to avoid setting a very bad precedence.
“It has become necessary to bring to the notice of relevant authorities in the state, the ambiguous and mischievous manner in which promotion arrears are being processed and paid to affected teachers in Delta State.
“Delta State Government has earmarked certain amount of money for the payment of promotion arrears but some unscrupulous elements in Pre-Audit will sit down on the files that contain huge amount of money..”
“Since 2020, some teachers have not been paid. The question is, ‘can’t these officers involved in the payment allow the poor teachers to breathe?”
“Since last year, our promotion arrears with effect from 2020 was not paid to us”.
He, therefore, appealed passionately to the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to direct the Commissioner for Education and the Accountant General of the state to investigate the activities of those involved in the payment of promotion arrears to teachers in the state so as to nip the trend in the bud.
According to him, the appeal had become necessary as it would go a long way in enabling the affected teachers to receive payment of their long awaited promotion arrears.
