Hope For Scavengers, As Recycling Plant Set To Expand In Delta

BY CHIJIOKE OYE

THE Solid Chemical Recycling Company has affirmed it’s commitment to expanding her operations across Delta State, while giving hope to scavengers through rebranding and profiling process to ensure effective service delivery.

While fielding questions from newsmen, The Managing Director, Francis Nnachiem disclosed that the company gives life to recycling products from cradle back to new products and that the company had been partnering with state Government on zero waste initiative.

Nnachiem further said the public can begin by separating decomposable waste from non-decomposable waste at the generating point, adding that there is wealth creation in recycling business.

He said that they would not remove scavengers outrightly from the business, emphasizing that they would be rebranded and profiled to ensure that the company deals with genuine scavengers.

He further added that scavengers would be deployed to truck drivers employed by the company to help in separating waste before dumping at the dump site, stressing that the new initiative would enhance service delivery and reduce touting among scavengers who would continue to earn better living through the process.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Mrs Minie Oseji assured the public that they were working in synergy with other ministries, departments and agencies.

According to her, they would soon embark on sensitization programmes among students, member of the National Road Transport Workers(NURTW) and the general public through production of billboards, jingles on radio, television as well as handbills.
