ONU Ika Nigeria, a socio-cultural organisation of the people of Ika ethnic nationality has lauded the immediate past governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the unprecedented human and infrastructural development recorded in the state during his eight years’ administration.
Speaking on behalf of members of Onu Ika Nigeria, during a solidarity visit to the former governor at his Asaba residence, the Head of Collective Leadership of the group, Chief (Barr.) Edwin Osuhor (KSM), said the monumental achievements recorded by the Okowa led administration cut across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Chief Osuhor who is the Edosomwan of Umunede and the Ede of Akumazi both in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state, said Senator Okowa had written his name in the sands of time with the phenomenal accomplishments recorded by his administration.
According to him, members of Onu Ika Nigeria, the entire people of Ika nation and indeed, well-meaning Deltans, are gleefully impressed with the developmental strides of the Okowa’s administration, adding that his recent invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was the handiwork few disgruntled individuals.
“We are here on a solidarity visit and to let you know that we are solidly behind you; we will not leave you because you are our worthy son who have done us (Ika people) and Deltans proud.
“It is on record that you provided transparent leadership during your tenure as Governor of Delta State to the admiration of most Deltans and that means quite a lot for us,” Chief Osuhor stated.
Responding, Senator Okowa expressed his profound appreciation to members of Onu Ika Nigeria for their solidarity visit, even as he said that he was not in any way afraid of any investigation.
He disclosed that the EFCC was looking for media trial, stressing that the allegations against him were frivolous and meaningless, just as he assured them and Deltans that there was no cause for alarm.
While reiterating that he was not perturbed about the petition, Senator Okowa pointed out that the release of funds during his tenure in office as Governor was based on the appropriation laws of the state.
“I thank you for your solidarity visit as l am delighted about it (the solidarity visit). Since my invitation by the EFCC, l have received groups of people who came for a solidarity visit.
“I am not afraid of any petition because the allegations against me are frivolous as they have no meaning. So, l am not worried about them (the allegations).
The Onu Ika solidarity visit to Senator Okowa came a day after the people of Anioma (Delta North Senatorial District) paid him a similar visit.
