Local Govt Council Honours Staff At Retirement Part

THE management and staff of Okpe Local Government Council have celebrated a former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government E m p l oye e s ( N U L G E ) , Comrade Ako Kensington, as he retired from the local government service. The ceremony took place at the legislative chamber of the council’s secretariat in Orerokpe on Thursday, June 20 2024 During his time in service, A k o w a s described by council staff as one who was known for his dedication and commitment to his job. His colleagues described him as always going above and beyond to ensure the smooth running of his department.

He was admired for his passion for civil service and his willingness to help others. The head of Personnel M a n a g e m e n t ( H P M ) and acting Chairman of Okpe Local Government Council, John Ofofo praised Ako for his humility and selflessness. According to him, “He (Ako) always put the needs of others before his. He was a mentor to many council staff” he said.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees ( N U L G E ) Comrade Endurance Odebala , represented by the union’s secretary, Comrade Atiyota Okeya, stressed Ako’s willingness to help those in need amid his fatherly advice to staff facing challenges, adding that he (Ako) took time to listen and provide support when needed.

Comrade Ako served as the NULGE secretary in Okpe Local Government Area from 1991 to 1994, and also as the NULGE Chairman for two tenures (1994-2001). He was later deployed to the office of the Local Government C o u n c i l C h a i r m a n a s an Assistant Director of Administration/Head of the Chairman’s Office Unit and Protocol Officer to the Council Chairman until he retired from civil service
