The Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Emma Chinye has met with the Committee and other Critical Stakeholders on Livestock Management in the Area.
The meeting was held at the Local Government Event Centre, Issele-Uku and was graced by stakeholders in the security sector, Fulani herdsmen, among others.
Chinye is the Chairman of the Committee on Livestock Management in the area by his position and according to the stipulations of the Delta State Livestock Management/Anti Open Grazing Law.
Also at the meeting were the presidents-general and youth leaders from the 18 communities in the area, representatives of leaders of herdsmen in all the communities in Aniocha North, the Supervisor of Agriculture and the Head of Agriculture in the Council.
Others include the All Farmers Association (AFN), the Divisional Livestock Officer in the area, the representative of the National Butcher Association, and the Cattle Dealers/Rearers Association were also at the meeting.
Also in attendance were the chairman of Community Vigilante Groups, Anti-cult heads in all communities in the area, Anioma Security Watch heads in all the communities, Chairman and members of the Local Government Revenue Taskforce and Chairman and members of Environmental Taskforce as well as the Head of Personnel Management of the Council, Mr. Bartrand Ojeh who is the Secretary of the Committee on Livestock Management in the area.
Speaking at the meeting, Chinye said it was geared towards sensitizing the stakeholders on Delta State Livestock Management/Anti Open Grazing Law No. 11 of 2021.
The Chairman pointed out the importance of the meeting and said it was for the local government to commence full implementation of the law in Aniocha North according to the directives of the State Government.
Chinye explained the provisions of the Delta State Livestock Management/Anti Open Grazing Law No. 11 of 2021 with respect to the regulation of livestock breeding, rearing, marketing and penalties.
While urging the stakeholders to avail themselves of the opportunity of the meeting to know what the law stipulates on the Management of Livestock and Anti Open Grazing, and not to go foul of the law, Chinye warned that ignorance of the law is not an excuse, even as he noted that the implementation of the Law is not a witch hunt, but to bring about peace, unity and progress in Aniocha North.
He therefore announced the readiness of the local government council to commence the full implementation of the law with effect from Tuesday, December 10, 2024, while urging stakeholders and all residents of the area to cooperate with the Local Government and the Committee as they work according to the law.
At the stakeholders’ meeting was the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Traditional Rulers Committee, HRM Obi Nkebakwu Ezedimbu, Obi of Ugboba.
