THE Chairman, Uvwie Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Anthony Ofoni has performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the local government’s cottage hospital.
The event, which held at Iteregbi, the site of the project attracted indegens, Iteregbi elders, landlord associations, students and workers in various organisations.
In his speech, Ofoni said that ground-breaking ceremony was an evidence of development.
“By the grace of God, this is the third ground breaking ceremony I’m performing since I assumed office and I’m determined to run with the M.O.R.E Agenda of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori so as to make Uvwie people proud.” he said.
He assured that every segment of the economy in Uvwie will be touched, reiterating his achievements so far, which includes two ultra-modern markets, still under construction, award of scholarships, cash gifts to staff and petty-traders, the purchase of a Siena vehicle for NULGE, barricade of the Effurun market, thus enhancing free flow of traffic, employment of women to sweep the roads in order to keep Uvwie clean, the purchase a 300KVA transformer for Ohore community and others.
In his remark, the engineer in charge of the cottage hospital project, Engr. Charles Efe, presented the design of the hospital, mentioning that there will be a pharmacy, children’s ward, women‘s ward, men’s ward and three private wards.
The project, he said, will take about six months to complete.
Also in his remarks, Delta State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kelly Penawou, expressed satisfaction over the projects the council chairman has embarked on, stating that the issues bordering on environmental sanitation and failed portions of roads in Uvwie are already being handled by the council chairman.
His Royal Magesty, Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, Ovie of Uvwie kingdom, in his remarks said that, Uvwie will continue to support the chairman in all his projects, stating that Uvwie made a good choice of a chairman and that he is looking forward to Ofoni’s second tenure.
Delta North Monarchs Elect Interim Executives

THE Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum has elected an interim executive to pilot the affairs of the forum for three months before a substantive leadership will be elected.
The interim executive was put in place during a meeting of the forum held at Owa-Oyibu, headquarters of Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State, recently. Those elected are Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II as chairman, the Obi of Ubulu-Unor, Agbogidi Henry Kikachukwu I, 1st vice chairman, Ezie of Ezionum, 2nd vice chairman, Obi of Abavo, Uche Irenuma II to take charge of welfare, Obi of Umunede,
Agadagidi Ezeagwu Ezeweali 1, assistant treasurer, while the Obi of Issele-Uku is the assistant finnacial secretary.
Others elected include the Akor of Oko kingdom as financial secretary; the Obi of Akumanzi, Henry Jegbefume, Public Relations Officer (1); Obi of Atuma-Iga, Daniel Ugbodu, secretary; Obi of Idumuje-Unor, Obi Charles Anyasi III, assistant secretary, while the Obi of Ukala, Clement Ifeanyinachukwu Ejiofor is the Public Relations Officer (PRO).
Under the Interim leadership arrangement, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Azinge holds the position of legal consultant; the Ukwata of Umukuata, Friday Abaja, humanitarian services consultant, while the Ebu of Umuebu, is the consultant, Government Interface.
Also in the interim exco is the Obi of Onicha-Ugbo, Victor Chukwunyemeze who will serve as treasurer of the forum.
Residents Commend Aniocah South LG Boss For Achievements In First 100 Days

RESIDENTS of Ogwashi -Uku and environs in Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State have commended the various achievements recorded by the local government chairman, Hon Pastor Jude Chukwunwike and consequently passed a vote of confidence on him for touching lives.
A cross section of the people, including businessmen and artisans, and a prominent community leader in the area, Chief Fidelis Okafor and others who pleaded for anonymity, who spoke to newsmen on the achievements of Hon Chukwunwike in his first hundred days in office, noted his determination to take the local government area to an enviable position.
They described the local government boss as not only a quintessential and focused administrator but also a political leader and father, who irrespective of political differences was bent on carrying everybody along with an open door policy.
According to Chief Fidelis Okafor the local government chairman has made the area better than he met it and had, in line with the MORE Agenda of the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori introduced new reforms towards the overall socio-economics development of the area, adding that areas such as education, health, markets, roads and overall wellbeing of all the citizens of the local government area have received attention. He explained that Hon. Jude Chukwunwike is a God-sent politician to turn things around and develop the local government area for the good of the people, stressing that from his first tenure in office, he asserted himself as a worthy leader and had continued to prove same, even as he marches on with his second tenure. “In his first tenure and second tenure, he has proved himself as a man that is ready to serve with interest of his people at heart’’, they asserted.
The people applauded the leadership style of Hon. Chukwunwike, describing him as a role model, and expressing confidence that he had all it takes to attract more development to the area due to his experience and exposure in administration and management of resources and prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection on him.
NDDC Donates Truckloads Of Relief Materials To Ewu-Urhobo IDPs Camp

THE people of Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State were in celebration mood as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) delivered truck loads of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at Ewu-Urhobo.
The NDDC delegation, led by Delta State Representative and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Monday Igbuya, explained that the relief effort was part of the commission’s intervention programmes aimed at alleviating the suffering of the displaced Okuama people.
The displacement followed a conflict between Okuama community and the Nigerian military, which necessitated the establishment of the IDP camp.
Items donated included; sewing machines, bags of rice and beans, cartons of noodles, toiletries, mattresses, pillows, wheel barrows, water drums, boats, and other essential supplies.
Igbuya, speaking on behalf of the NDDC board and management, emphasized the commission’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in the Niger Delta region.
“We are here today to present these items on behalf of the board and management of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC,” said Chief Igbuya.
“The NDDC, as an intervention agency, saw the need to step in and provide these palliatives to help the Okuama people in this challenging time.
This intervention came on five truck loads meant to ease their burden and help them transition back to their homes.”
Igbuya expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the NDDC leadership for their role in facilitating the relief effort.
“I want to specially thank Mr. President for his gracious approval, which made this possible.
Without his support, these items would not be here today. This is a testament to his fatherly care and commitment to the Niger Delta region,” he added.
Receiving the items, Chairman of the Okuama IDPs Camp Management Committee, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, applauded Mr. President and the NDDC for its generosity and foresight.
Ogbodo, speaking on behalf of the Delta State Government, noted that the Governor set up the IDPs camp to ensure the well-being of the displaced persons.
Court Begins Hearing On Alleged Trafficking Of Girl, 15 By Mother

THE Family Court Division of the Delta State High Court in Ughelli has started hearing a case involving the alleged trafficking and sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old schoolgirl by her mother.
The suit, initiated by child rights activist and member of Take It Back Movement Nigeria, Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, is seeking justice, protection, and an assessment of the alleged victim.
The Presiding judge, Justice Mary Gesikeme-Akebotah, granted several interim orders while adjourning the case till December 13, 2024.
Among the orders was the appointment of Margaret Oghuvwu (the seventh respondent), proprietress of Triumphal Model School, Effurun, as the child’s guardian pending further hearings.
Also, the judge ordered the court bailiff to serve the originating process and every other process and notice required in the suit “by substituted service through a registered courier” on the Delta State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission at No. 19, Maryam Babangida Way, opposite SUBEB, Asaba, before the next adjourned date.
In the same vein, the judge ordered that the originating process and every other process and notice required in the suit should be similarly served on the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police.
The judge further granted an interim order restraining all parties in the suit from taking further steps in the matter pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Earlier, while moving the motion ex parte in matter, which was brought pursuant to Section 82(3)(4), 260, 261(f) of the Delta State Child Rights Law 2008, and Order 7, 7(6), 7(6A), 7(6F), 7(11A), 14(4), 23(3), 23(4) of the Model Family Court (Procedure) Rules 2018, the applicant, Aghogho who had no legal representation, prayed the court to allow him to represent himself “on behalf of and in the interest of the affected child”.
