IN preparation for the 2024 Ugboko Unity Cup tournament scheduled for the yuletide period, the Monarch of Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Obi Chukwunonso Nwoko’ has unveiled the trophy, football, and jersey meant for the forthcoming soccer tournament in the community.
While fielding questions from The Pointer at the palace, Obi Nwoko’ called on the community youths to participate in sports, and come out at large to cheer their individual villages during the tournament, admonishing them to abide by the rules and eschew violence.
The Royal Father pointed out that the Ugboko Unity Cup was designed to foster peace and unity in the town.
Obi Nwoko said that Idumuje-Ugboko needs unity in the real sense of it, and every son and daughter of the town must put heads together to provide long lasting unity and peace so as to foster development in the community.
Earlier, the donor of the trophy and other materials, who is also the Executive Assistant to Governor Oborevwori (SSG Office), Sir. Jossy Honnah said that as a way to give back to the society, he was committed to touching lives through sporting activities and would use the medium to haunt for talents among the youths.
Honnah recalled that during Christmas period, people gather together in the school field amidst joy to watch matches and other relevant ceremonies to spice up the season, adding that, he promised to use his appointment in Government to contribute his quota, no matter how little to the development of youths in Idumuje clan.
The Executive Assistant hoped that the tournament would further bring the youths together, give them a sense of belonging and distract them from the activities in the street, while calling on youths to come out as spectators and cheer up the players representing their villages.
The climax of the event was the presentation of the trophy, appreciation speech and exchange of pleasantries between the Monarch, the Donor, The Coaches and other principal actors and the local organizing committee Chairman.
