IN a move to tackle the long-standing challenge of promotion arrears, the Senior Management Staff Committee, Office of the Head of Service has commenced promotion interviews for officers on Salary Grade Level 12 to 16 due for promotion on 1st January and st July, 2025 respectively .
This significant development is aimed at mitigating the delays in promotion, which have been a source of concern both to the government.
The interview panel, chaired by the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, kicked off the exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Conference Hall, Office of the Head of Service at 9am.
Over a thousand officers on Salary Grade Levels 12 to 16 are expected to be interviewed during the exercise, which will run until Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Eligible officers who came for the exercise, expressed their joy and appreciation for the early interviewS, describing it as a proactive step towards addressing the accumulation of promotion arrears.
They commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his efforts in improving the working conditions of workers in the state, just as the also praised the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, for aligning himself with the governor’s MORE agenda, which prioritizes the welfare of workers. One of the respondents Mr. Augustine Itawansa, a Deputy Director, expected to be promoted to Salary Grade level 17, urged the government to sustain this development by organizing promotion interviews in November or December annually as presently done.
According to the officer, the exercise was seamless saying that it would help reduce the issue of accumulated arrears to its barest minimum .
