…As HMB Sets Pace

AS part of efforts aimed at bolstering efficiency and productivity in public service, the Delta State Government (DTSG) has advanced the need for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to institutionalise regular recognition and awards for deserving and distinguished staff.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Reginald Bayoku, the Chairman, House of Assembly committee on Health, Hon. Ferguson Onwo gave the advise yesterday in Asaba, the State capital at the 2024 Hospitals Management Board (HMB) Annual Service Award/Christmas Carol.
The trio who were special guests of honour at the event, lauded the State HMB for setting the pace in what they described as laudable idea of recognizing excellence in service delivery. Apparently delighted with the idea which they further described as novel in the State, the trio in their separate remarks, enjoined the various MDAs in the State to take a cue from the State HMB.
Speaking specifically, the elated Delta State SSG said, “I am excited about this program here today. This is one program I love to attend despite my right schedule
“Recognition is a key thing in every discipline. When you recognize the job an individual does, you only spur such an individual to do better. You must encourage people so that they would become exemplary
“I am particularly happy that this is happening here today. I, therefore recommend that the entire state civil service should take a cue from this” Emu said just as he enjoined the staff and management of HMB to sustain the tempo and ensure that it becomes a flagship for other MDAs to emulate.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Paul Okubor said that the board decided to initiate the annual award ceremony as part of its deliberate efforts aimed at encouraging and engendering team work and excellence within the board.
Similarly, Chairman of the Board, Dr. Paul Oweh, while emphasizing the import of the annual service award in enhancing efficient service delivery, noted that the board under his watch would continue to sanction officers in accordance to extant rules. The Pointer reports that high point if the event was the presentation of awards to deserving health workers as well as hospitals in the State.
