Ezinne Onyeme Counsels Families On Ways To Strengthen Values

BY RITA OYIBOKA

WIFE of Delta State Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme has called for a renewed focus on family values as essential building blocks for state and national development.

Speaking yesterday at the Winning Women International Annual Event themed “Built to Last”, in Asaba, Delta State capital, Ezinne Onyeme emphasised the indispensable role of women in nurturing unity and stability within families.

Highlighting contemporary societal challenges, she lamented that “today, many young persons are pursuing quick money through dubious means such as Internet fraud, popularly known as ‘yahoo-yahoo.’ They dismiss education as a scam. On the other hand, some girls engage in questionable activities instead of pursuing meaningful work.

Marriages, too, are often treated casually, with little regard for the sanctity of the institution. These issues often stem from families failing to provide a strong moral foundation.”

She urged women to embrace their roles as builders of homes and communities, stressing that by strengthening family units, they could drive meaningful progress at both state and national levels.

Earlier, the event’s Convener and Founder of the Winning Women International Fellowship, Mrs. Tochi Godspower, shared the organisation’s vision to empower women and promote enduring family structures. She recounted how the fellowship emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic to support vulnerable women and children, offering resources and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

Mrs. Godspower also stressed the importance of regular outreach programs to equip women with the tools to create lasting legacies in their families and communities.

During a panel session, marriage and relationship expert, Mrs. Blessing Ezenwanne, highlighted key principles for building lasting families, including respect, effective communication, and mutual understanding. She explained how these values strengthen homes, enabling them to withstand challenges and positively impact society.

In his keynote address, politician and Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Hotels Plc, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, drew from his wealth of leadership experience to inspire attendees. He shared practical insights on building resilience, strategic planning, and innovation, applicable to both personal and professional spheres. “Whether you’re building a family, a business, or a community, success requires vision, consistency, and adaptability,” he said.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the Eternal Excellency Award to Ezinne Catherine Onyeme by Mr. Valentine Ozigbo.
