…Adjourns Plenary To Jan. 14, 2025

FOLLOWING the expiration of the 14 legislative-day suspension order handed down on two members of the Delta State House of Assembly; Hon. Kenneth Oboro Preyor and, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe, the suspension was yesterday, lifted by the House.
The lifting of the suspension order which was pronounced by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, however, came prior to the report by the committee set up by the House to Investigate their alleged gross misconduct.
Addressing the lawmakers during Tuesday’s Plenary, Rt. Hon. Guwor said although the committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo to investigate the suspended lawmakers was yet to turn in its report, but given the fact that the 14 legislative-day suspension order has elapsed, they ought to be recalled.
Guwor said, “Dear colleagues, you would recall that few weeks ago, the member representing Ukwani State Constituency, Hon Chukwudi Dafe and the member representing Bomadi State Constituency, Hon. Kenneth Oboro Preyor were suspended by this House following their alleged gross official misconduct.
“Subsequently, a committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo was set up by this Honourable House to Investigate their alleged gross official misconduct.
“Although the committee is yet to turn in its report, but you are all aware that the 14 legislative-day order has elapsed. They should resume duties from today, going forward.
“So, going by the confidence you reposed in me, I hereby state that the suspended lawmakers should henceforth resume plenary”, the Speaker directed.
It would be recalled that in November this year, the member representing Ukwani State Constituency, Hon Chukwudi Dafe and his Bomadi counterpart, Hon. Kenneth Oboro Preyor were both suspended by the State House of Assembly for alleged official gross misconduct.
Following their suspension, an investigative committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo was set up to investigate the allegation leveled against the duo. Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary to Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
