Ezewu Calls For Credible Test Item Generation For 2025 BECE

BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has called for a credible, reliable and valid generation of test items for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

She made this call during the opening ceremony of a workshop on test item generation held at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba.

According to the Commissioner,  the workshop underscores Delta State’s commitment to maintaining excellence in education by equipping educators with the tools needed to assess students effectively and support the overall development of the education sector.

Ezewu highlighted the significance of the workshop, noting that it aims to ensure that the BECE maintains its high standards in assessing teaching and learning outcomes while explaining that the workshop provides a platform for experienced educators to create a robust repository of test items that align with the state’s educational curriculum.

“This exercise is crucial to developing credible, reliable, and valid test items that can effectively measure students’ performance across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, and she noted that the initiative would enrich the Ministry’s question bank, ensuring that test items comprehensively cover the curriculum and provide fair assessments for Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) students eligible for certification.” She said.

The Commissioner commended the participants, who were selected based on their expertise, diligence, and trustworthiness, urging them to uphold the integrity and confidentiality associated with the task. “Your role as subject specialists is vital in maintaining and improving the standards of our educational assessments. I encourage you to approach this process with professionalism and commitment,”.

Ezewu acknowledged the efforts of the resource persons and facilitators who have contributed to the success of similar workshops in previous years. She expressed confidence that the workshop would achieve its objectives and set the stage for a successful 2025 BECE.

She urged participants to take advantage of the workshop, while wishing them a productive session.
