The Delta State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has announced plans to kick off its local government and state congresses, aimed at revitalising youth leadership in the state.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of NYCN, Delta chapter, Amb Kenneth Okorie, while announcing the council’s annual management committee meeting, slated for January 16 2025 at St John’s Anglican Church, Agbor.
The event will bring together Local Government Area (LGA) coordinators, secretaries, and youth leaders from all affiliated bodies across the State.
Speaking, Amb Okorie emphasised the importance of the management committee meeting, describing it as a critical gathering for evaluating the council’s performance.
“The management committee is where all the affiliated bodies come together once a year. Everyone gathers to discuss issues, review our progress, and evaluate areas where we succeeded and where we fell short.
‘’We also address challenges and find ways to resolve them. During this meeting, we brief our members on our activities over the past year, what we achieved and where we were unable to meet our targets,” he said.
The congresses, he explained, are a significant agenda item for the council meeting. “One of the key initiatives involves preparing for the local government and state congresses. The objective is to elect representatives and new leadership in all the major local governments.
‘’This decision to convene the congresses arises from the need to infuse fresh ideas and energy into the council’s leadership framework. It also aims to promote broader representation and participation among young people across Delta State. Following these elections, the focus will turn to electing new state executives,” he said.
The upcoming management committee meeting is expected to facilitate collaboration among youth leaders, provide a clear roadmap for the leadership elections, and strengthen the council’s role as a unifying platform for youth development in Delta State
