A lady, Blessing Jonathan in Delta State has confessed that she dumped her 10-month-old baby into the river because her friends abuse and shame her for being a single mother.
The lady, who confessed to the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright, then proceeded to report to the police in the company of her sister that the child was missing.
According to her, ‘’I was angry because of the things people say about the child. The father of the child abandoned us and did not ask after us and I have been the only one caring for the child.
‘’One Mr Ugo is the father of the child but I do not know him or his family. But I decided to keep the child and give him a surname. However, soothing came over me because of the things people were saying.
‘’Delta girls always judge people and that was what made me get angry. I feel sad that I threw the baby into the river. This is my first child and I do not have another yet. I am missing my child and I feel like going to bring him back’’ she said
The police spokesman said that regardless of how the lady felt, she had been arrested and would be charged in court for the offence of suspected murder. He advised that people should be careful with the kind of advice they give as they do not know the extent of repercussions.
