The Ozoma of Isheagu in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Austin Modebe has expressed disappointment over the peace accord arranged by the council authorities between Isheagu and Ukwu Oba communities after a gruesome attack on him a few weeks ago, saying it has taken away attention from those who carried out the dastardly act that almost cost him his life.
Modebe who spoke from his hospital bed at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba recently, wondered why the council convened a peace accord when his attackers were still at large, while he was being left to his own fate in the hospital, adding that his car was completely burnt, with the charred remains lying in the bush.
Modebe said he was admitted into the Emergency Unit of the hospital and was billed to undergo surgery to save his fingers after they were nearly dismembered by his attackers, in addition to several machete cuts to his head, hands and other parts of his body.
In a chat with The Pointer, Modebe said what led to the attack was the decision by Isheagu community to survey their land, which angered youths from the neighbouring community, with several of them descending on him in an orgy of violence, saying he was saved by the presence of some security personnel who were stationed to provide security for those carrying out the survey work.
But responding to questions via a telephone call, the councilor representing the area, Hon. David Omah explained that the peace accord was under the auspices of the Local Government Council Chairman, Pastor Jude Chukwunweike, being the chief security officer of the council, adding that investigation on the attack on Modebe was being carried out by the Area Commander’s office in Ogwashi-Uku, the local government area headquarters.
Meanwhile, Modebe has cried out for a speedy investigation in a bid to bring his attackers to book and ensure that he gets justice.
