BY ANDREW IKEHI
IN the spirit of the Yuletide, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Delta State, Mrs. Bridget Asindi Ajala Alexis, has enjoined Nigerians, to leverage on the season in showing love to one another, particularly to vulnerable persons in the society.
Asindi who is the Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Women Mobilisation, made the appeal in Asaba, the Delta State capital during the distribution of cash gift to over 30 women in Ward Four of Oshimili South local government area of the state for the Christmas celebration.
The governor’s aide, who personally championed the distribution of the cash, noted that the current economic challenge in the country was a wakeup call for everyone to uphold the biblical injunction of “Be Your Brother’s Keeper”.
She commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for providing the enabling environment and platform for her to lift some fingers of assistance to the less privileged, particularly and, in relation to the present economic challenge in the country.
Speaking with The Pointer shortly after the exercise, she said, “What I have just done is in line with the vision of my boss, the Governor of our dear state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who had set the pace for Deltans to be their brothers’ keepers in this trying times.
“Based on this, particularly, I decided to interact with our women and assist them with my humble and little contribution.
“Even though Government on its part is distributing palliatives, there is also the need for individuals to complement and support Government efforts. That is exactly why we are here today” the Governor’s aide said.
Meanwhile, she advised women in the country to be prudent as well as support their husbands during and after the yuletide in order for us to continue to promote peaceful homes during and beyond the season.
The women, who included the young and the elderly, expressed joy and satisfaction, just as they prayed for her and the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori whom they said, appointed the right person as Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a PDP faithful and Ward Four Woman Leader of the party, Mrs. Patricia Okonkwo commended the benefactor for the gesture, just as she noted that the gift would go a long way in ensuring that the women have and enjoy the Christmas celebration.
While calling on other well-meaning Deltans to take a cue from Mrs. Asindi, the PDP woman leader noted that it was coming barely three months after the benefactor presented relief materials and cash to over 100 women in the area to cushion the impact of the harsh economic challenges. She prayed for her just as she enjoined the women to use the money judiciously.
