DTSG Moves to Sanction DESTMA Officials Found Guilty of Bribery

BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

In a decisive move to uphold accountability and ethical practices, the Delta State Government has announced plans to sanction officials of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) found guilty of engaging in bribery while performing their duties in the field.

The Director-General DESTMA, Hon. Benjamin Okiemute said this during a meeting with DESTMA officers where he reiterated that several investigations revealed instances of misconduct among some DESTMA personnel, tarnishing the agency’s reputation.
Hon. Okiemute while addressing officers, expressed zero tolerance for corruption, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that public officers serve with integrity and professionalism.

“The actions of a few corrupt individuals cannot be allowed to undermine the credibility of our traffic management system. Those found guilty will be taken to court and if found guilty, would face disciplinary measures, including possible dismissal, to set a strong example.” He said

He emphasized that various policies will be implemented to ensure the smooth operation of the agency. These include rotational duty assignments for officers, supported by training and orientation programs to help personnel adapt during rotations. Other initiatives include the establishment of a DG Surveillance Team, DESTMA Police, DESTMA Intelligence Unit, and the DESTMA Band—all aimed at boosting productivity, improving service delivery, and creating a more dynamic and engaging work environment.

He urged officers to remain disciplined in their respective duties, stating that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” He also appealed to them to avoid gossiping about others and to focus on carrying out their assigned responsibilities diligently.

The Director-General commended the State Government for its unwavering commitment to equipping DESTMA with the resources needed to excel. He announced that new vehicles and towing vans would soon be distributed across the state, ensuring that all zones are adequately equipped to deliver top-notch services
