Okuama Indigenes Appeal For Help To Rebuild Community

THE People of Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area have appealed to the Federal, State and Local Governments and DESOPADEC, Corporate Organizations, individuals, to come to their aid towards the rebuilding their community.

Recall that Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area, once had block houses, but after the crisis caused after the killing of 17 army personnel, it is now covered with weeds, and indigenes now sleep in thatched houses while some sleep in the bush.

They said feeding is tough for the people, just as the means of potable water no longer flows, as they now drink and bathe with the river water.

Some leaders of Okuama community, Mr. Victor Akemor, and Hon Jacob Akemor, explained that over 19 days after the shutdown of the Ewu-Okuama IDPs camp the people returned to the community to meet nothing on ground, even though they were promised completion of a hall for them to stay.

They explained also that their children who were being taught at the IDPs camp no longer go to school because the primary and secondary schools being built by the state government were not ready.

Some of the women who spoke expressed sadness over their living conditions, saying that the reason they accepted going to the camp was due to the promise of putting up structures before they return, only to return to nothing on ground.

They appealed to the Federal Government, the state Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, DESOPADEC, NDDC, corporate organizations, came to their aid, saying that the rains are approaching very fast.
