The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has marked a significant milestone in his life as he celebrated his 50th birthday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The occasion witnessed an outpouring of goodwill as leaders, elders, and critical stakeholders of the state gathered to felicitate with the governor.
In a heartfelt address during the celebration, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for the overwhelming show of love and support. He candidly admitted that he typically refrains from celebrating birthdays but was deeply moved by the turnout and goodwill.
“I sincerely, in all my life, have never subscribed to celebrating birthdays, especially this one. That is the truth about it,” the governor said. “I am really happy, but I had some drops of tears—not of sadness, but of joy—that people could love me this way. I appreciate it even when I have not done anything for them.”
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to remaining humble and dedicated to the people of Rivers State, despite the influence of power. “I want to say that I will still be the Fubara that you know. Power will not change me. I will still make sure that what I hold dear in life—God and my respect for people—remains intact,” he stated.
The governor also spoke of his vision for Rivers State, pledging to work towards the collective aspiration of the people. “With your support, that Rivers State we all yearn for, we will definitely achieve it. Even if we don’t get it completely, we will put those things in place that will channel us towards that goal,” he assured.
Reflecting on the significance of the day, the governor remarked, “This morning is a birthday morning, not one to discuss politics. It is a morning to say I am happy to celebrate my Golden Jubilee. It means I have joined the league of the old men today.”
Governor Fubara extended his gratitude to his family, supporters, and everyone who contributed to making the day special. “Honestly, I can’t pay you back. It is the Almighty God who will reward everyone who made sacrifices to ensure this evening is worth it,” he concluded.
The event was marked by heartfelt tributes, prayers, and goodwill messages, underscoring the respect and affection the people of Rivers State have for their governor as he begins a new chapter of his life
