Udu Harbour Market Project To Be Completed In June

…Agbi Lauds Governor Oborevwori For Steady Financing

The Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Audit to Delta State Governor, Engr Dr Goodnews Agbi has hailed the giant stride of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in making funds available to contractors for the completion of the multi-billion naira Udu Harbour Market Project set to be completed in June 2025.

Agbi, during an inspection tour of the facility, spoke to Journalists after getting assurance from the site Engineer that all is in place for the project to be completed in June 2025 due to the Governor’s proactive style of making funds available for the project.

The Udu Harbour Market, upon completion, will be the largest in West Africa as it comprises of 600 lockup shops, 122 open shops and can be accessed from both land and Sea with a Jetty linking to the river as part of the project.

Agbi said: “I just got assurance from the engineers that this project will be completed in June this year. A project awarded since 2006, but abandoned, has been rejuvenated by our hardworking governor and this is highly commendable.

“I know the economic benefit that this market will bring to the people of Udu local government area and Delta State at large and thus requires the utmost attention.

“Our workaholic Governor is proving his MORE Agenda to Deltans and it is expedient that we give him all necessary support to actualise this.

“We shall not leave any stone unturned, and we remain resolute in delivering our core duty to Deltans”.

Recall that Governor Oborevwori himself had visited the facility in 2024 and gave assurance that he will do everything possible to complete the project in 2025.

Governor Oborevwori said: “I was here for a function about two weeks ago, and I promised to come here and inspect this project with a view to fast tracking it.

“Contract for this project was awarded in 2006 and the initial contractor abandoned the project and it was re-awarded. I was here with the immediate past Governor when I was Speaker, to inspect this project.

“From 2023 to now, you can see the level of improvement on the project. When we came the last time, the fence was not there and the new buildings were not there as well.

“I made a promise that no project would be abandoned and it is important to note that this project is very key to the people Udu and environs.

“The project comprises 600 lockup shops and 122 open shops, and if it is completed in a very short time, as we expect it will, it will serve the economic needs of the people of this area.

“Keep working because we will not delay your payments, whether I come for inspection or not; I have with me here the Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Audit, Dr Goodnews Agbi.

“He will be coming to oversee what you are doing here to take measurements and also look at the quality of work you are doing because what we want is quality jobs. We don’t want substandard jobs.”
