FUPRE Raises Stakes In Environmental Protection Efforts

THE Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has disclosed that an ongoing transformative initiative is aimed at safeguarding the environment and equipping its manpower with high-quality training to drive resourcefulness across diverse sectors.

This strategic move endorsed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh and approved by the university’s management, is also aimed at nurturing a generation of leaders capable of implementing sustainable practices to mitigate environmental impact, while promoting socio-economic development.

In a statement made available to The Pointer, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development, Dr. Emeka Elemike expressed enthusiasm at the initiative’s potential to empower graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle environmental challenges effectively.

According to him, the university’s Center for Sustainable Development has received official approval to launch a series of professional post-graduate programmes tailored towards students and professionals’ impactful roles in sustainability.

‘’We are excited to receive this approval, which underscores the university’s dedication to fostering sustainable development through education and practical engagement. These programmes are meticulously designed to address our society’s pressing needs and prepare our graduates for impactful careers in sustainability.

‘’The FUPRE Center for Sustainable Development aims to be a leading hub for research, training, and implementation of sustainable practices. The centre overtly intends to integrate advanced curricula with real-world applications, the Center aspires to contribute significantly to local, national, and global sustainability goals”, he said.

The approved programmes are Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Sustainability Practices, Masters in Sustainable Development, Community Development, Energy Transition and Sustainability, as well as Masters in Project Management, and a Doctorate in Sustainable Development
