DESTMA DG Seeks Synergy with Nat’l Towing Van Owners Association

BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

MEANWHILE, the Director-General of DESTMA, Hon. Benjamin Okiemute, has announced plans to establish a strategic partnership with the National Towing Van Owners Association (NTVOA), Delta State Chapter, to enhance traffic management and ensure the swift removal of broken-down vehicles from major roads.

The initiative aims to improve road safety, reduce congestion caused by stalled vehicles, and strengthen emergency response mechanisms across the state.

According to Okiemute, collaboration with professional towing operators will significantly enhance DESTMA’s efficiency in maintaining smooth traffic flow.

He emphasized the importance of synergy between government agencies and private sector stakeholders in tackling traffic challenges. He pointed out that abandoned or broken-down vehicles often create road hazards and contribute to accidents, making timely intervention by towing services critical.

The Director-General further stated that the proposed partnership would involve proper coordination between DESTMA officers and NTVOA members to ensure a prompt response to distress calls.

He also revealed that the agency is considering new policies to regulate towing activities, ensuring professionalism, fair service charges, and adherence to safety standards.

Speaking at the meeting, the Board Chairman Chief Peter Idion assured NTVOA that discussions would continue to finalize the collaboration, with a focus on implementing policies that benefit both road users and towing operators.

In response, NTVOA Delta State Chapter Chairman, Mr. Sunday Akhiegbe, welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed the association’s readiness to work with DESTMA to create a safer and more organized road network in Delta State.

Mr. Akhiegbe also stressed the importance of clear operational guidelines, effective communication, and potential training programs to enhance efficiency in towing services.

With this synergy, road users in Delta State can expect faster clearance of stalled vehicles, improved traffic flow, and enhanced road safety across major highways.
