BY EVELYN ZORZOR

IT was a joyous moment for the aged and orphans across Delta state as the wife of the Governor, Dcns Tobore Oborevwori celebrated her birth anniversary with them, yesterday.

The First Lady, as part of activities to mark her 55th birth anniversary visited the vulnerable groups across the state.

At the St Joseph’s Catholic Old People’s Home, Asaba, she fed and encouraged the elderly citizens to keep hope alive in spite of daunting challenges.

She expressed her gratitude to God for the privilege to be alive and for the blessings that have come her way.

Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, the First Lady described the elderly as critical pillars of the community.

“Your wisdom and experiences have shaped Delta State and we want to thank you for being an integral part of our lives.

“It is a thing of great honour to be in your midst today to glean from your wealth of wisdom.

“Rather than celebrate in grand halls or throw elaborate parties, l decided to celebrate this day in a way that truly matters and that is why I came to you”.

The wife of the Governor donated tons of food items including bags of rice, garri, tubers of yams, cooking oil, cartons of tomato paste, beverages, cartons of noodles and toiletries to the home.

In her sermon during the event, Mrs Nkechi Onianwa emphasized to the elderly that God’s plan for them is that of prosperity and good health and so encouraged them to embrace God’s promises to enjoy their old age.

The senior citizens had a swell time, dancing with the First Lady, who demonstrated visible humility and joy in identifying with them.

There was also a medical team on ground to attend to their health needs based on diagnosis.

In her vote of thanks on behalf of the elderly, Rev Sis Antoinette Adene appreciated the First Lady for remembering the elderly in the society and prayed for God’s lasting blessings on her.

The First Lady also sent representatives to vulnerable homes including orphanages in other parts of the state and replicated the same gesture.
