LG Auditor-General Inspects Projects In Ethiope West, Sapele

THE Delta State Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr. Ikenna Ukpaka has embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of several ongoing and completed projects in Ethiope West and Sapele Local Government Areas.

The visit, part of the ongoing 2024/2025 Project Monitoring Exercise across the state’s 25 local government areas, was aimed at evaluating the progress, quality, and impact of various developments initiated by the councils.

The inspection commenced in Ethiope West Local Government, where the Auditor-General and his team were received by the local government Chairman, Hon. Onogba Chris, alongside his management team.

The chairman led the delegation on a tour of key projects executed by his administration, including the construction of a six-classroom block at Okuemore Primary School, as well as the construction of a perimeter fence, a security post, a school field, and a solar-powered water scheme at Mosogar.

Other projects inspected included the construction of a 16-unit (10-in-1) open market stall and a 10-unit (5-in-1) lock-up stall, both equipped with a solar-powered water scheme and public toilets at Mosogar. The team also assessed the provision of a solar-powered water scheme and reticulation system at Ekroda, Jesse, the rehabilitation of the primary health centre, and the installation of a solar-powered water scheme at Ajagbodudu. Following the inspection, Mr. Ikenna commended the chairman and his team for their initiative in executing these projects.

He, however, urged them to prioritise projects that directly benefit the rural populace and ensure the realisation of the principles of the 3Es, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in all local government undertakings. In continuation of the exercise, the Auditor-General’s team proceeded to Sapele Local Government, where they were received by the local government Chairman, Hon. Abeke Bright, along with his top management officials.

The teams then embarked on an inspection of several projects, including the reconstruction of a section of Palmer Road, the construction of blocks of stores at the Ultra-Modern Reclamation Garage, and the fencing and installation of a security post at the same facility. Other projects evaluated included the construction of a 12-room corpers’ lodge and the provision of state-of-the-art security gadgets and equipment to enhance security within the local government.

After the inspection, Mr. Ikenna emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency in project execution. He urged the local government authorities to maintain financial discipline and ensure that all projects meet the required standards for the benefit of their communities.
