The Executive Director of Projects on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okrodudu, has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring electricity in communities within the Olomu Kingdom.
Fifteen communities of Olomu kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta are set to be reconnected to the national grid after fifteen years of total darkness due to lack of power supply.
This was revealed in an interface meeting convened by Olorogun Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, the Executive Director of Project, at the DESOPASDEC Board, with the officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu said, “Out of the fifteen communities that made up Olomu kingdom where I came from, there is the challenge of light in 8 of the communities for the past 15yrs and I deemed it fit to reach out to the leadership of the BEDC led by Mr Curtis.
“And we decided that we should hold a meeting with major stakeholders in Olomu kingdom and principal offices of BEDC and we had a robust Interactive session together.
“The product of that interactive session is that we should set up a committee made of BEDC officials and people from the communities involved in Olomu.
“The committee assignment is to visit each of the affected communities, identify areas of challenges either the transformers, the cables and anything that is critical to the lighting of these communities.
“The committee has been put together, and given the mandate to report back to us in two weeks time to get the report for us to expedite actions until we get light to all the communities that are involved because we have been reasoning together.
“I want to commend the BEDC officials led by Curtis for their understanding as we know that there is no problem without solution.
“No matter the challenges before us, with constant communication, meeting between now and then, we will be able to get to where we are going”. He said.
On his part, the BEDC regional head, Warri region, Mr Nwadei Curtis said, “This meeting falls with dreams of BEDC management to restore back those that has been in darkness.
Just like what the EDP says, Olomu Communities have been in darkness for over 15yrs and it is a thing of joy that we held this meeting and the committee has been set up
“We will wait for the committee to go to the field and come up with their findings and what exactly it will take to bring them back to the national grid.”
