Asaba Monarch, NSCDC Host Free Medical Outreach For Indigent Residents

In an effort to enhance community health, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, in collaboration with the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge SAN, has organized a free medical outreach, yesterday for indigent persons in Ogbilor community, Asaba.

The event, which held at the Ogbeilo Community Town Hall, provided essential medical services, including free eye screenings, provision of prescription glasses, and diagnosis and treatment for malaria, typhoid, and other ailments.

Speaking at the event, the NSCDC State Commandant, Mathew Ovie described the outreach as a gesture to the people, emphasizing that, security not only involves protection from physical harm, but also the promotion of the general well-being of communities.

“This outreach began on Monday, 7th April 2025, with the distribution of food items to indigent members of several communities within Asaba. The Commander-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, is a man of compassion and he is passionate about improving lives, especially in terms of security and health. In line with his vision, this year’s outreach is carefully designed to bring healthcare to the doorstep of those with little or no access to medical facilities.”

Ovie added that the outreach was designed to improve access to healthcare, encourage early detection and prevention and create awareness about healthy living among vulnerable populations. He called on stakeholders, partners, and well-meaning Nigerians to support and sustain such initiatives to help build a more inclusive society.

In his remarks, Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Delta State Contributory Health Commission and State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Martins Bulum, commended the organizers for addressing the community’s medical needs. He also announced the enrollment of 30 indigent persons into the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme for one year.

Also speaking at the event, Health Department Coordinator of the organizing association, Queen (Nurse) Precious Bassey, said they were pleased to partner with the NSCDC and encouraged residents to take full advantage of the outreach.

Other dignitaries who praised the initiative included Chief Patrick Ndili, Palace Secretary and representative of the Asagba of Asaba and the Queen of Delta, Queen Success Umunagho.
