VICTIMS of the Agbor tanker fire explosion, which claimed at least four lives, injured three and destroyed property worth millions of naira will soon get relief, as support from the Delta State Government is expected to reach them in coming weeks.
This assurance was given by the Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Ejiro Etacherure, during an exclusive interview with The Pointer, yesterday.
Etacherure disclosed that financial disbursement to alleviate the suffering of the victims would commence shortly, as the memo for approval has reached its final stage, which according to him has already been endorsed by the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
“My management team conducted an on-the-spot assessment in Agbor and submitted the report to me. The memo has been raised and approved. It is a process, but I can assure you that the Governor has approved the funds to support those affected by the fire incident in the coming weeks, when we will meet with the victims,” he stated.
He noted that such interventions often require time due to adherrence to procedures. He commended Governor Oborevwori for his steadfastness and commitment to ensuring that victims are supported.
“Governor Oborevwori is a man of his words.” It would be recalled that the Agbor tanker explosion occurred on January 5, 2025, when a diesel-laden tanker reportedly suffered brake failure, at traffic light junction in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area.
