DTSG To Partner UNIDEL On Entrepreneurship

As part of measures to reduce youth unemployment, the Delta State government has set up entrepreneurship /schemes in higher institutions across the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Entrepreneurship Development, Dr Peterson Onyibe made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy call on the management of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor

Dr Onyibe underscored the importance of entrepreneurship in the lives of students, which would encourage them to devise innovative solutions. The economist said that entrepreneurship drives economic growth and creates jobs, especially for graduates.

The governor’s aide stressed that the ‘Agro-preneur’ and ‘Tech-preneur’ initiatives were aimed at engaging the students positively to become job creators instead of job seekers.

He requested land where the hydroponic farming system would be practised to attract gains for both the students and the institution.

On Tech-prenurship, Dr Onyibe said a team of lCT experts would train the students, especially on digital marketing, cyber security, and other ventures, to enhance their potential.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Stella Chiemeke, in her response, commended Dr Onyibe for his love for UNIDEL, which she said, has been felt immensely.

Prof Chiemeke said UNlDEL was ready to partner with the office of entrepreneurship, adding that the Department of Agriculture would do the needful to ensure a smooth kickoff of the scheme.

Onyibe who was accompanied by some of his special assistants, was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Stella Chiemeke; her Deputy, Prof Patricia Mbah; the Registrar, Richmond Omagbemi; the Bursar, Mr Sunny Ikeogwu and the University Librarian, Dr (Mrs) Vera Okonoko.
