Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan returned to the 100m hurdles at the 2025 Wanda Diamond League season opener in Xiamen, finishing fourth with a season’s best time of 12.74 seconds.
In Xiamen, the 100m hurdles race was highly competitive. Jamaica’s Danielle Williams clinched victory with a time of 12.53 seconds, followed by USA’s Grace Stark at 12.58 seconds, and South Africa’s Marione Fourie in third with 12.62 seconds. Amusan’s 12.74-second finish secured her fourth place in a field that included several world-class athletes.
The Xiamen Diamond League meeting featured a star-studded lineup, including reigning world indoor 60m hurdles record holder Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas and Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico. The event served as a significant early-season test for athletes aiming to qualify for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.
This marked Amusan’s first 100m hurdles race since the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she had taken a hiatus from the event. Last month, she competed in the 100m sprint at the MVP Velocity Fest in Kingston, Jamaica, clocking 11.28 seconds to win the race.
Amusan, who set the world record of 12.12 seconds in 2022, expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting that the race provided valuable insights into her current form and areas for improvement. She remains focused on building momentum as the season progresses towards major championships.
The next stop on the Diamond League circuit is scheduled for Doha, Qatar, where Amusan is expected to continue her campaign and further assess her readiness for the global stage.
