It was a memorable day for the people of Owhodokpokpor-Ogor community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, as 500 women were enrolled into the Delta State Health Insurance Scheme, granting them access to free healthcare for one year.

The enrollment, fully sponsored by the Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Hon. Kelly Emuoghenerue Oghenekevwe, marks a significant step towards improving the wellbeing of vulnerable groups within the community.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, praised Hon. Oghenekevwe for prioritizing women’s health, describing the gesture as a profound demonstration of passion and commitment to service.

He urged other well-meaning citizens to emulate such initiatives, highlighting that the state’s MORE Agenda, championed by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is focused on enhancing the welfare of all Deltans.

Hon. Oghenekevwe, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for creating platforms that allow citizens to support the vulnerable. He commended Dr. Akpoveta for driving the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Program with dedication, contributing to the steady improvement of health indices across the state.

Explaining his focus on women for the first phase of the sponsorship, Hon. Oghenekevwe said women are more vulnerable and assured that a second phase, including men, would soon follow.

The community responded warmly to the initiative. Chief Anthony Okpugwarah, a political leader from the area, described the sponsorship as inspiring and commendable. Beneficiaries also expressed deep gratitude, offering prayers for the sponsor’s continued success.

The event culminated with the presentation of health insurance cards to the newly enrolled women and the conferment of the Health Insurance Ambassador Award on Hon. Oghenekevwe in recognition of his outstanding contributions to community healthcare.
