People, Most Valuable Asset In National Devt -Bayoko

The Delta State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko has described the annual public lecture series organized by the State Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), as a veritable platform that has opened up new vistas for Human Resource management practices in Nigeria.

Bayoko made the assertion while delivering a keynote address at the 2024 Annual Public Lecture of the Institute held at Sapele on Thursday.

The Head of Service said the annual public lecture had significantly expanded the corpus of knowledge and literature in Personnel Management, adding that the initiative had deepened CIPM practice in the country.

“The meticulously researched papers presented over the years have not only been thrilling and inspiring but have also significantly expanded the corpus of knowledge,” Bayoko said.

He explained that the public lectures served as crucial platforms for self-development that allowed civil servants to exchange innovative ideas, broaden their knowledge, and refine their skills.

Bayoko commended the leadership of the Delta State Branch of CIPM for their unwavering commitment to sustaining the invaluable tradition and urged them not to relent in their efforts.

The HoS expressed delight at the impact of the public lectures and other human capacity endeavours in fostering excellent human resource management, disclosing that knowledge gathered through such gatherings had provided insightful discussions that have served as catalysts for transforming our workplaces into an environment where creativity and productivity thrive.

He described the theme of this year’s exercise, “People Management for Enhanced Public and Private Sector Productivity,” as both timely and vital, adding that the discourse resonated seamlessly and aligned perfectly with the objectives of CIPM.

While underscoring the essence of people management in an organization for productive, effective and efficient service delivery, the HoS acknowledged that people management was one of the most complex and rewarding aspects of management, continually challenging every Human Resource Manager.

He implored human resource managers to commit to fostering a culture where people management for enhanced productivity was the norm in both public and private institutions.

“Let us recognize that the greatest and most valuable asset of any nation is its people.” Bayoko reminded human resource managers.

Earlier, the Delta State Branch Chairman of the Institute, Mr Godfrey Nkogbu, stressed the significance of the gathering which brought together human resource professionals from both the public and private sectors.

The Chairman of the Bureau for State Pension, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, who was the guest speaker, delivered a paper on “People Management for Enhanced Public and Private Sector Productivity” that was later described as a thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating paper.
