Delta To Negotiate With RMAFC On Revenue Allocation

  • Demands Transparency From NNPC

The Delta State Government has said it would negotiate with the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and other members of the Federation Account Allocation (FAAC) Post-Mortem Sub-Committee to recover outstanding funds and improve resources accruable to the State.

The Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije made this known while fielding questions from journalists during the three-day retreat on efficient management of the federation account for members of the Federation Account Allocation (FAAC) Post-Mortem Sub-Committee in Asaba.

Tilije said that the RMAFC, which was set up by Decree No. 49 of 1989, is very critical in the fair and equitable allocation of resources to the different tiers of government in Nigeria as its core mandate is to oversee and monitor the disbursement of funds from the federation account and review allocation formulae.

“I must confess that as a state, we have enjoyed the cooperation of the federal MDAs in the composition of FAAC and RMAFC. I can also affirm that the revenue-generating MDAs, particularly the FIRS and customs, have done so well. The setback we have always had as regards remittance at the plenary of FAAC is the NNPC.”

“I am hoping that when we finish this retreat, they will be able to proffer solutions that would make the NNPC to be more transparent and accountable to the people. We had thought earlier that with the enactment of the PIA, the transparency of corporate governance culture would find its way to the NNPC portfolio but it hasn’t happened,” the Commissioner said.

Recall that in November 2023, the Delta State Government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Finance hosted an enlarged FAAC retreat which had in attendance the Federal Minister of Finance Mr. Wale Edun and all commissioners of finance and Accountants-General in the Federation.
