Sanitation: Mudiaga Tasks Residents On Drainage Maintenance

The Acting Chairman and Head of Personnel Management (HPM) to Udu Local Government, Chief Omodio Enajite Mudiaga has tasked residents of the area to open up drainages so that water can easily flow to Rivers and canals to avoid blockages.

Chief Omodio, speaking during the state environmental exercise in the area, said with the rainy season at hand, blocked drainages could lead to flood which will in turn destroy economic crops, properties, and form a breeding point for mosquitoes, which increases malaria in the society.

He thanked the people for coming out to observe the exercise, noting that if everyone was conscious of maintaining his or her environment as desired, the health of the people will improve and much money will be invested in other sectors of the economy.

On her part, the Head of Environment Department, Sanitarian Elizabeth Okochi said her department would double their efforts in sensitizing the masses on the need for environment sanitation.

Sanitarian Okochi noted that most residents disposed their waste indiscriminately thereby blocking drainages and oozing offensive odour to the detriment of the masses.

She promised to carry the message of clean environment and improve living to every corner of the locality.

On his part, the President-General of Ovwian Town, Mr Dele Okuku appealed to government at all levels to come to the aid of the community by constructing drainages and expand the road linking Udu Bridge to Otor-Udu.

He disclosed that the Ovwian Town carries out sanitation exercise every two weeks and appealed for government support.

Present to monitor the exercise were Mrs Ufuoma Ajuwa, Ufuoma Akporugo, Greg Alibor, security personnel, Environment Department staff and host of others
