Agbi Warns Contractors Of Zero-Tolerance For Shoddy Jobs

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Project Monitoring/Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, has warned contractors handling government projects to beware of shoddy jobs.

Agbi gave the warning when he visited the ongoing construction of Ughelli/Asaba dual carriageway Sector C at Ellu/Otor-Owhe and Emevor in Isoko North Local Government Area with his team.

In carrying out an on-the-spot assessment on the project being handled by Levant Engineering Limited, where he pointed out some spots, which may likely fail if not corrected as soon as possible, he commended the contractor for his swift action as promised during the last visit.

“When we saw it the other time,  we called the attention of Levant to look at that section that was already failing because of pot holes but as you can see, when we were coming along the road, they have taken care of that, my friend here promised us that they will mobilize to the portions we earlier pointed out to them before the Sallah”.

“That after Sallah, they will move in to start working here and you saw it that they are finishing with the asphalt on the road because they said they will move here, so I commend them for putting in place, best engineering practices in carrying out these corrections.”

He reiterated the zero-tolerance stance of his Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, on shoddy or poorly executed jobs in Delta State, saying, “going forward, they should give only the best because our Governor does not tolerate any poorly executed work that will fail in the next one or two years. Remember this is a major road.

“When there’s any failure, people will know and they will blame Levant, so they should be careful of their name. So let the remaining portion be done properly,” he stated.  The site engineer handling the dual carriageway, Engr. John Sabai, assured the monitoring team of a good and standard job that will stand the test of time.

Dr. Goodnews Agbi also visited the ongoing dualization of 1.6 kilometer Ezesi road, Orerokpe, in Okpe Local Government Area.  He asked the contractor, Wizchino Engineering Limited, to give his best in ensuring the job is delivered within the stipulated period and place where necessary, road signs for directions and avoid unnecessary damage of properties during construction.

At Udu modern market, the Special Adviser conveyed the state government’s willingness to complete the ongoing market construction.

“Government can’t sink so much money into it and not complete it, it has to be completed, that was what we were discussing with the contractor, he has raised a certificate which has been paid but before raising another, he’s waiting for the review due to high cost of materials.

“The consultant is slowing them down, what he was supposed to provide for them to do the review is not there, hence we are inviting the contractor, Chu-Emma Global Services, the consultant and the awarding ministry to the office to find solution to this matter, the redesign will also affect the review,” he added.

Agbi, frowned at the nature of shoddy job being carried out at the ongoing construction of 2.5 kilometer Odedogho road (phase 1) from Ekiugbo junction, off Ughelli-Patani Express, in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

He therefore called on the contractor Zims Global Impex to always ensure quality job in line with the Bill of Quantity.

Those present during the inspection tour were Engr. Blessing Enamutor, PhD, Executive Assistant, EA to the Governor on project monitoring, Engr. Prosper Erah, Executive Assistant, EA, Mrs. P O Esejor, Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Project Monitoring/Audit, Pastor Kenneth Otuya, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Dr. Ikere Victor, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Mrs. Ebitomor Preye, Director of project and Engr. Ladina Yebu, among others.
