Agbi Tasks Engineers On Checkmating Shoddy Jobs

By Prisca Ogbo

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, has called on professional engineers in the state to partner with the Delta State government in monitoring projects to eliminate shoddy and poorly executed jobs.

He gave the charge during a courtesy visit, where he played host to the Chairman and members of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ughelli branch, in his office in Asaba, today.

Addressing the team, he reiterated that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda was dedicated to delivering standard jobs, adding that it was of great importance to draw the attention of the ministry to low-grade jobs in any part of the state.

“Without engineers, you can’t have a workable society. We monitor projects to ensure that jobs are done according to specification. Your contribution will be invaluable to us”, he said.

The Chairman of the society, Engr. Ejiro Iwemah congratulated the special adviser for his doggedness in coming out to participate in the last governorship election, stressing that his appointment as Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring was well-deserved.

”You are one of the very few engineers in the country who took such bold step, and it is a plus to engineering as a professional body and a society”.

Engr. Iwemah further disclosed that the society had taken on the responsibility of carrying out engineering sensitization programmes in secondary schools, on the benefits of reading professional courses.

“By preaching the gospel of engineering, we are trying to see how we can catch these children at a tender age so that they can begin to build their mentality and orientation on the basics of engineering”, he commented.

Seeking for partnership, the chairman of the society appealed to Engr. Agbi to support the movement so that it will serve as a precedent for a future with confident and brilliant engineers.

The NSE, Ughelli branch is the 67th branch inaugurated on the 1st of November 2017. It covers Ughelli north and south LGA, Udu LGA Isoko north and south LGA, Patani LGA and Bomadi LGA.
