Delta CJ Harps On Speedy Justice Delivery

Delta State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Tessy Diai, has reiterated the need to ensure speedy delivery of Justice to prison inmates, stressing that leaving persons awaiting trial or undergoing trial in custody indefinitely is unacceptable.

Justice Diai made the remarks when she visited the Sapele Custodial Centre as part of her second quarterly visit to custodial facilities across the state. The visit aimed to review the cases of awaiting trial persons and address the challenges faced by the custodial centres.

In his welcome address, the Officer in Charge of the Sapele Custodial Centre, M.A. Egbe, expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge for the visit to the facility. He emphasized that this visit brought hope and the expectation of freedom for the inmates.

Egbe highlighted some of the challenges faced by the custodial centre to include; acute shortage of human and material resources to carry out their daily assignments.

The Chief Judge stressed the importance of not leaving individuals in custody indefinitely, as they should have the chance to go to court and seek bail.

Justice Diai, was accompanied by Justice Okolosi, Justice AA Oghoveino, Justice Ossai, among others.
