The Independent National Electoral Commission has said its portal would be open for online accreditation of journalists and media organisations interested in covering the Edo State governorship election.
The Edo governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024. In April 2024, INEC published the final list of 17 candidates for the Edo Governorship Election.
The names include Ighodalo Asuerinme of the Peoples Democratic Party who was disqualified by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday; Okpebholo Monday of the All Progressives Congress; Patient Ndidi of the People’s Redemption Party and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party among others.
In a notice yesterday, the commission said its portal would open on Monday, July 8, and close on September 5. The commission urged media organizations to ensure they register their reporters during the timeframe provided. INEC said no extension would be granted after the expiration of the given deadline.
The notice read, “INEC wishes to announce the commencement of online accreditation for journalists and media organizations intending to cover the Edo State governorship election. “Media organizations interested in deploying journalists to cover the election are by this notice expected to apply via the commission’s website.
“The portal will open on Monday, July 8, 2024, and close on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Late submission shall not be entertained as the portal will automatically shut down at midnight on Thursday, September 5,2924 and there will be no extension of time.”
