Suspected armed robbers at the weekend carted away over N15 million belonging to a customer while going to the bank for the cash to be deposited in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the armed robbers, about five in numbers had stormed and lay siege for their target in a gold coloured Toyota Venza with unidentified registration number plate.
According to sources, “Three persons, a private security guard of United Bank of Africa, UBA, a motorcycle rider and a woman were shot by the armed robbers before making away with their loot at about noon on Friday.
“The robbers armed with guns in a gold coloured Venza had trailed their suspected victim to UBA premises along Isoko road, shot severally into the air before attacking the victim and carting over N15 million.”
“The cash stolen belong to a Sea Food Company along Ughelli-Port Harcourt in Ughelli North.
“The Manager and Auditor of the company went to the bank deposit the cash about N15.3 million and some fractions in the afternoon, only to hear that they were attacked by armed robbers at the front of the bank.”
The incident has been reported at the Ughelli ‘A’ division and the police are on top the issues as investigation is currently going on”.
The incident led to panic as shop owners quickly shut down while vehicular movement was on hold while the operation was on along the ever busy Isoko Road in Ughelli.
A source who spoke to The Pointer said, “The robbers came for the customer who was coming to make a deposit and before he could enter the bank, he was probably trailed and the unfortunate incident occurred.
“One of our security guard was injured and he is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
A spy camera that caught the suspected armed robbers indicated that they came in a gold coloured venza with one of the robbers at the passenger seat displaying Ak-47 riffle while putting on face mask.
