UNIDENTIFIED youths suspected and motorcyclists prevented combine team security agents from arresting a passenger that boarded a motorcycle in Ekredjebor community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned that the youths alleged that the local vigilantes under the supervision of few police officers were embarrassing innocent road users
According to a security source, the clash between Ekredjebor youths and security operatives in Ughelli North local government happened on 5th July,2024, at about 1700 hours, along Ekrejebor road.
“Some youths clashed with some vigilante operatives on patrol with Policemen over alleged harassment and attempted arrest of an unidentified passenger on a commercial bike.
“The youths alleged that the security operatives stopped and started harassing the passenger because he wore a cap with a symbol which they suspected to be that of cultists, threatening to arrest him.
“In the process, commercial motorcycle riders and youths within the area mobilized and stopped the arrest.
“In the ensuing fracas, one of the security operatives shot a teargas canister into the air to dispersed the angry youths.
“This further triggered the youths, who subsequently launched and attack on the security operatives who immediately fled the scene with their van, leaving a policeman and one of the vigilante operatives behind who were mobbed by the youths.”
