LG Polls: We’ll Reject Manipulated Results –Oborevwori

  • Warns Against Thuggery, Violence, Intimidation

delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, reiterated his assurance for a credible, free and fair local government elections in the state, saying that any election result that is not genuine would be rejected.

Governor Oborevwori gave the assurance at a mega rally held at the Cenotaph, Asaba which was organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to  cap its electioneering campaigns ahead of the Saturday, July 13 local government council polls in the state.

He disclosed that he believed firmly in free, fair and credible elections, adding that he was a beneficiary of a transparent election as the election that brought him to office was free and fair.

The governor warned against thuggery, violence and intimidation, pointing out that eligible voters should go to their polling units and perform their civic responsibility in a responsible and peaceful manner.

While thanking Deltans for their sustained support for his administration, Governor Oborevwori appealed to eligible voters to vote for PDP chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the state in the forthcoming council polls.

“I believe in free and fair elections. Any election result that is not genuine would be rejected. There should be no fighting before, during and after the local government elections. “Eligible voters should go to their various polling units and cast their votes in a peaceful manner.

“I thank Deltans for the love that they have, over the years, been showing to successive PDP led administration in the state.

“l am appealing to all eligible voters in the state to get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ready and vote for all PDP candidates come this Saturday, July 13, 2024”, the governor added.

In his goodwill message at the rally, the state Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme called on all eligible voters in the state to vote massively for all the PDP candidates in the council polls.

Sir Onyeme noted that the PDP had been providing top-notch leadership that had over the years, inspired sustainable socio-economic growth and development of the state, adding that Deltans should continue to support the party in all elections.

Also speaking, the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said, as members of one family, the PDP should remain united to enable the party deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

Senator Okowa said the PDP was sure of victory in the forthcoming council polls as a result of the fact that the party had campaigned vigorously in all local government areas, wards and units across the state.

“I am truly very happy that the party is moving forward. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has given a good number of appointment to people. I am also aware that he (Oborevwori) is planning for empowerment programme for Deltans,” he said.

Welcoming defectors from other political parties in the state to the PDP, the State Chairman of the party, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso assured them (defectors) of equal stake, stressing that they should work for the victory of the party in the council elections and all future elections in the country.

In their separate speeches, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Senator James Manager and Dame Nkem Okwuofu implored eligible voters in the state to vote for all the PDP candidates in the forthcoming council polls.
