Rural Dwellers Expect Peaceful, Violence-Free Elections Today

BY CHIJIOKE OYE

Rural dwellers in Aniocha North Local Government Area have expressed their hopes for today’s local government election, praying that political leaders and their parties, along with the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), ensure a free, fair, and violence-free election.

In a chat with The Pointer, Hon. Onyebuchi Aninye emphasized the importance of a free and fair election, highlighting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken significant steps to secure victory across the state.

He assured that the PDP is prepared to ensure that voters support their party, and any victory would be dedicated to the people. Aninye asserted that the PDP is the political party capable of bringing the desired changes to the community.

Conversely, John Nwabunwanne, a Labour Party leader, expressed hope that DSIEC would ensure the timely arrival of election materials at all polling units across the local government.

He stressed the need for DSIEC to prevent any form of rigging during voting and the collation of results. Speaking to journalists, Nwabunwanne confirmed that the Labour Party is ready for the contest and emphasized the necessity for fair competition according to the stipulated rules and regulations.

He noted that it is time to change the narrative, adding that the Labour Party has carefully selected a strong candidate to lead the local government. A level playing field, he said, would further enhance the electoral process in the council area.

Meanwhile, Josephine Ukadike, an All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter residing in Onicha-Ugbo, stated that the party is prepared to face the election challenges.

She expressed confidence that the people would be satisfied with the election outcome if all key players adhered to the rules. Ukadike expects the APC to achieve victory and commended DISEC for their efforts thus far.

She added that Aniocha North would soon enjoy the benefits of democracy and emphasized that vote-buying would not be tolerated at polling units during the election.
