Attempt To Destroy Warri INEC Office Foiled By Police

AN attempt to destroy the office of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) along Esisi Road, Warri by yet to be identified persons was foiled by the police on Wednesday 10th July, 2024.

A source disclosed that young men in their numbers with weapons and containers filled with substance suspected to be fuel, chanted war songs and attempted to force their way into INEC premises while INEC officials were out for delineation of electoral units and wards exercise in compliance with Supreme Court judgment.

It was further gathered that a concerned passerby who discovered the moves, contacted the police. The police responded immediately by chasing the hoodlums out of the Warri INEC office. Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) Delta State Police Command SP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile combined battle ready men of government security agents were seen in security lorries and vans patrolling major areas in Warri by our correspondent about 8am yesterday morning.

It would be recalled that the Itsekiris had opposed the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment on delineation of electoral units and wards in the Warri Federal Constituency while the Warri indigenous Urhobos and their Ijaw counterparts were in support of it as published in Pointer Newspaper editions of Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th July 2024 respectively.

Meanwhile a reliable source disclosed that the delineation of electoral units and wards exercises were going on successful in the Agbarha Warri Kingdom communities of Igbudu and Otovwodo (Agbassa) at as the time of filing this report
