THE Acting Chairman of Warri North Local Government Council, Mr Clement Anighoro, has called on all stakeholders in today’s local government election to work together with the government and the electoral body to ensure a smooth, free, fair, and non-violent process.
During a critical stakeholders meeting held in his office in Koko, the headquarters of Warri North, Mr. Anighoro, who also serves as the Head of Personnel Management (HPM), emphasized the importance of a peaceful election.
He highlighted Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to a peaceful election process across the State’s 25 local government councils, including Warri North. He stressed that peace should prevail regardless of which party or candidate wins.
Anighoro, a civil servant, assured stakeholders of his neutrality and impartiality, as required by law. He urged the community to accept the election outcome, provided the winner is an indigene of the local government and called on community leaders and political parties to promote peace before, during, and after the election.
Meanwhile, a representative of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), Mr Tonwe Terry, assured the Warri North Council of the commission’s readiness for a hitch-free election. He requested cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and credible election. Likewise, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Koko, Mr. Lukman, confirmed the police’s preparedness, noting that officers were already being deployed, with more expected from the Area Command Headquarters before the election. The Head of the Department of State Service (DSS), Mr. C.I. Ibitoye, urged DSIEC to be proactive in distributing election materials, considering the riverine nature of the area. He expressed confidence in a peaceful election, reflecting on past experiences in Warri North.
