Meanwhile, the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will today swear in the newly elected 25 Local Government Council Chairmen in the State.

The State electoral umpire (Delta State Independent Electoral Commission) had on Saturday conducted elections for Chairmen of the 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Councilors of the 500 DSIEC Wards in the State

The elections according to accredited observers, security agencies, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) which is the umbrella body of all registered political parties were adjudged free, fair, credible and acceptable to electorates.

A terse statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Protocol, Government House, Asaba, Mr A.N. Tetsola and  made available to newsmen yesterday, stated that the swearing-in ceremony will hold at the Event Centre, Okpanam road, Asaba at 10 am, while elected chairmen and all guests were expected to be seated at 9am.

However, the major opposition party in the State, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Warri South and Ughelli north Local Government Areas, boycotted the Saturday’s Council elections, claiming lack of confidence in the State electoral umpire to conduct credible polls.

The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) Chairman, Sir Rachael Agbaike said, the commission promised Deltans free, fair and credible elections and had just done so in the Saturday’s LG polls.  He added that stakeholders adjudged the exercise to credible and rancour free.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Scribe in the State, Hon. Daniel Osai opined that boycotting the election was a last resort of APC, adding that they never campaigned nor canvassed for votes from Deltans but chose to boycott the exercise for fear and shame of losing.
