Erebe Cautions Youths Against Crime

  • …As Delta CJ Resumes Prison Visit

By Onoriode Etatsemi

THE Delta State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe has advised youths to abstain from crime.

Erebe gave the advice in Kwale while speaking to journalists shortly after a prison visit to Kwale Correctional Centre by the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Tessy Diai.

The Solicitor-General advised them to live upright lives and avoid actions that may lead them to become inmates of a correctional centre.

Commenting on the Chief Judge’s prison visit exercise, the Solicitor-General praised the painstaking and diligent manner with which the Chief Judge reviewed the individual cases of the inmates. He said he was also impressed with staff of the Ministry of Justice for their diligence in ensuring that witnesses were brought to court to give evidence. The Solicitor-General stated that staff of the ministry had continued to give a good account of themselves during such exercises.

Erebe stated that most of the cases were at the judgement stage, adding that it was an indication that the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022 is working in Delta State.

The Solicitor-General also appreciated other stakeholders in the Administration of Criminal Justice for their commitment to ensuring the success of the exercise.

Earlier, the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Theresa Diai, while reviewing cases, said that a total of 244 cases were listed but due to the conclusion of some of the cases of the inmates or their release on bail, only 215 cases of inmates were actually reviewed.

She said that out of the 215 warrants reviewed, no inmates were released, and none was granted bail as their cases were ongoing before the various Courts. His Lordship then commended all stakeholders for their efforts, particularly the Office of the DPP, stating that without the input of the DPP’s office, the trial of the cases would not move so swiftly at the courts.
