THE Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, has marked its 107th Inaugural Lecture with a presentation by Kingsley Nwangwa, a professor of Endocrine and Reproductive Medicine.
The event, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Andy Egwunyenga, attracted a capacity audience keen to engage with the topic “Sweet Bitterness: Unmasking the Thief of Man’s Dignity and Fecundity.”
Prof Nwangwa delivered an insightful lecture on the devastating effects of diabetes, exploring the disease’s impact on human dignity and fertility, while sharing his extensive research findings, innovations, and achievements in the field of endocrine and reproductive medicine.
His presentation highlighted the significant burden of diabetes in Nigeria and provided valuable information on combating the pervasive disease.
The event, organized under the chairmanship of Prof Enajite Ojaruega, Chairman of Ceremonials of the institution, was praised for its impactful and informative content. Prof Nwangwa’s lecture underscored the importance of continued research and innovation in addressing critical health issues.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University’s Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff, and Students, expressed gratitude for Prof Nwangwa’s contributions and reiterated the university’s commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing pressing health challenges.
Prof Nwangwa holds an MBBS (Medicine and Surgery) from Abia State University; before proceeding to acquire both his Master’s Degree and Doctorate, both in Human Physiology, from DELSU, and a Postgraduate Degree from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Family Medicine.
…Commissions Multi-Million Naira Poultry
THE Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies at Delta State University, Abraka, celebrated a significant milestone with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art poultry.
The new facility, a multi-million naira investment, boasts a 100/50ft poultry house with a capacity for 3,000 birds, equipped with solar panels, a brooding house, a storehouse, and automated drinkers.
The Vice-Chancellor of DELSU, Prof Andy Egwunyenga, delivered a commendatory speech during the event, lauding the remarkable transformation of the centre under the leadership of its current director, Prof Onoriode Emoyan.
Addressing the attendees, including senior non-teaching staff, professors, and students, Egwunyenga said, “I have just taken a tour of the 3,000-capacity poultry house.
‘’You will agree with me that we are here in a transformed Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies. And transformation is a product of innovation. The current Director of the Centre, Prof Emoyan, is essential to this achievement, given his passion, thinking capacity, and execution of the vision for this Centre.”
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the centre’s contributions, noting its role in the certification of 10,000 students. “This centre has not only helped in the training of students in their courses but has also contributed to their certification.
‘’Through hands-on skill transfer, students are not just earning their degrees but also gaining valuable certifications that enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities,” he added.
The newly-commissioned poultry house is expected to provide practical training opportunities for students, enhancing their skills in poultry management and agro-business.
The facility underscores DELSU’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among its students, equipping them with the necessary tools to succeed in their future endeavours.
