Udi Highlights Essence Of Training In Capacity Building

THE Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House Affairs, Mr. Victor Udi, on Wednesday, stressed the importance of regular training and retraining in building a virile, efficient and productive workforce.

Mr. Udi who was speaking while declaring open, a one-day workshop on “Performance Improvement on Basic Administrative Principles and their Application in the Civil Service, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, said training and retraining programmes were very vital in human development.

According to him, the Directorate placed high premium on training and retraining programmes because of its immense benefit in human capital development, adding that adequately trained workforce would deliver better services to the people and the government.

He stated that the training workshop was a key component of the Directorate’s programme and by extention, the state government’s initiative to continuously improve the skills of her workforce in order to ensure up-to-date administrative tools and practices.

The Permanent Secretary said the goal of the Directorate was to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement where every officer is empowered with the knowledge and tools needed to excel in their roles.

He maintained that the workshop was focusing on the middle management staff in the Directorate of Government House and Protocol, saying “this particular group has been strategically selected for this training programme because of the critical role they play in the day-to-day administration of the Directorate.

“As middle management officers, you serve as the backbone of the operations, bridge the gap between the senior management and front line staff. Your ability to manage, coordinate and implement policies and programmes is crucial to the success of the Directorate and efficient functioning of government business.”

Mr. Udi, therefore, advised the participants to pay apt attention to different resource persons that would tutor them during the workshop in order to be able to tap from their pool of knowledge.

Earlier, a representative of the Consultant, Dr. S. C. Odigbo, on behalf of Kundun Associate, thanked the Permanent Secretary for the great initiative of continuous training of members of staff of the Directorate.

Dr. Odigbo charged the participants to take the workshop seriously by paying adequate attention to the lectures that would be delivered by the resource persons, even as he encouraged them to open their heart to accepting morden administrative trends and be free to ask questions where and when necessary.

Participants at the training programme who were visibly entused, thanked the Permanent Secretary for the great opportunity provided for them to update their knowledge and skills through the initiative, just as they promised to put to good use, all they will learn from the workshop.

The workshop had three plenary sessions where Administrative Functions and their Application; Today’s Administration for Tomorrow’s Works and Review of Civil Service Rules and Code of Conduct were discussed respectively.
