Ohanaeze PG, Iwuanyanwu Is Dead

THE President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu is dead.

He reportedly passed on in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, yesterday.

This was confirmed in a statement by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu,

According to the statement, the 82-year-old Iwuanyanwu died after a brief illness.

“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” the statement read.

The late Iwuanyanwu was a renowned figure, serving as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly. He is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, and many children and grandchildren.

He is the second President General of Ohanaeze to die in quick succession.

The burial details will be announced later by the family after due consultations.

…. Tinubu Mourns

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Iwuanyanwu family.

In a message of condolence from the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu described him as an accomplished businessman and notable politician.

The President said he condoles with the Imo State Government, the friends and associates of the deceased, and Ndi Igbo over this irreparable loss.

He also affirmed that Chief Iwuanyanwu will always be remembered for his remarkable legacy.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed elder statesman and comfort for his family.

… Umeh Weeps, Says Igbo Nation Losing Icons In Quick Succession

In a related development, the member representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh, was overcome with emotion as he mourned the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

At an event in Ngodo, Nise, yesterday, Umeh lamented the loss of another Igbo leader, saying the nation is losing its icons in quick succession.

He listed notable figures like George Obiozor, Ogbennaya Onu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme, Ben Nwabueze, amongst others as those who had passed away recently.

Umeh described Iwuanyanwu’s death as a tragic loss, saying he died while serving the Igbo nation.

Senator Umeh’s emotional tribute reflects the widespread sadness and sense of loss felt across the Igbo nation at the passing of another respected leader.
