Task Force Enforces Anti-Street Trading Ban In Sapele

By Valerie Oyibo-Itie

IN a bid to safe-guard the lives of traders and customers in markets in the Sapele metropolis, the Delta State Task Force on Environment, during the week, went round major markets in the city to forcefully eject traders from public roads.

The Sapele branch of the Taskforce, led by Comrade Ernest Eyeana, was at Sapele Main Market, Okirighwre and Amukpe markets, respectively, to clear the main tarred roads of traders, who were of the habit of shading their wares on the road.

It has been observed that these traders neglect stalls provided for them by the government and rather prefer to trade along major roads in the city, thereby obstructing traffic and creating potential danger to themselves. Their customers, and other road users.

It was also an occasion to create awareness of the danger inherent in their activities on the road.

At the various markets, defaulters were seen running away from the road with their wares, an indication that they are aware that it is not a good act.

The action of the task force created a swift route for motorists in Sapele Metropolis and it is hoped that the incessant menace of street trading in markets in Sapele has come to an end with the enforcement exercise of the task force. It is hoped that sensitization and enforcement action would be sustained.
